WKWELHMW Art INSTALLATION IN ICELAND
Myths were born in Iceland. The elder gods died 1400 years ago only a few hundred yards away from our wonderful Gullkistan residency studio in Laugarvatn, Iceland.
Who Knows What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Men and Women (WKWELHMW) in Iceland is our touring art installation which focuses on comic book censorship and the notorious American (comic) book burnings held from 1948 - 1952, concurrent with the Red Scare. Charlotte and I relate the story of the Senate investigation that gutted the comic book industry and creatively shaped my own artwork.
Our art installations typically place artwork in uncommon sites outside commercial gallery and museum spaces. We, as book artists, enjoy temporarily putting work in the natural environment or in private homes so that an individual or small group of people might consider the meaning of this history.
Who knows what kind of storm system blew these un-American values across the Atlantic, allowing them to take root even on Icelandic soil?
